Viral Bikes Sponsors First Two Athletes
Alex and Annabelle Will Ride Across the Seven Continents on Viral Dérives
Bentonville, AR – Since its inception, Viral Bikes has been a very small, very lean company and its marketing budget has reflected this. In 2024, Viral will sponsor its first two athletes and their journey across all seven continents.
Annabelle Golden and Alex Odom-Tomchin will take their new Viral Dérive’s on the most epic journey that could ever NOT be planned: across all seven continents by bike. The goal? To make it. The way? Who knows. The why? To raise money for World Bicycle Relief, a non-profit that Viral Bikes founder Steve Domahidy is also passionate about. “World Bicycle Relief is a very cool organization building incredible utilitarian bikes for communities that use these bikes both as a means of transportation and their ability to grow access to education and health. Its mission is a very cool one we are in alignment with.”
Annabelle and Alex are using this journey to raise awareness and money for WBR, and will have ways of contributing to the organization along their route through Patreon and other means.
“World Bicycle Relief is an amazing organization that utilizes the power of reliable bicycles to improve the quality of life and uplift many individuals in their partner communities. Bicycles promote greater access to vital resources and opportunities in fields such as education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. Just $165 helps put a brand new bike in the field and forever changes the trajectory of an individual's life,” Alex Odom-Tomchin tells..
“Cycling is the perfect speed to take in the world – walking is a bit too slow to cover such vast distances, and driving is too fast that everything blurs by. But with cycling, you're able to go far and see a lot along the way and that's exactly what we plan to do!” says Annabelle Golden. “Being artists ourselves, we recognize and appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Steve brings in creating some of the best frames out there. Undertaking a journey of this magnitude, we knew we wanted to be 100% confident that our gear was up to the task, that we could depend and rely on it day in and day out, and so we knew that Viral was the way to go.” she adds.
The journey is expected to take the better part of four years, but in 2024, Annabelle and Alex will concentrate on getting through Europe. Starting April 14, they will ‘soft launch’ their adventure by riding a starter leg from New York to Boston. From there, they will catch a plane to Norway, and begin the journey in earnest in Tromsø, Norway heading south through Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium before skipping over to the UK.
